Community Rules
Version 1 · updated on 31 August 2026
These rules say what belongs on FAUNA and what does not. They are part of the Terms of Service, and they are what we point at when we remove something or answer a report. Without written rules, a decision of ours would be nothing but an opinion.
1. This is an app about animals
Everything published here should be about animals and the people who care for them: yours, those looking for a home, questions, walks, lost and found, products and services. We are not a general social network, and content unrelated to animals may be removed even if it breaks nothing else.
2. What never belongs here
Cruelty, abandonment or suffering shown as normal, funny or desirable. Animal fighting and anything promoting it. Bestiality. Sale or trafficking of protected species and their products, ivory included. Nudity and explicit sexual content. Severe insults, threats, and attacks on someone for their race, origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. Incitement to violence. Content Portuguese law forbids.
These are blocked as you try to post them. They never reach anyone.
3. Photos and videos
Post what is yours, or what you have permission to post. Do not post identifiable people without their consent, and never other people's children.
Photos you send to the community go through an automatic check before they appear. Health records are different, on purpose: a wound photographed for the vet is the right use of this app, and those images are private: seen by whoever cares for the animal.
4. Adoption is never paid for
FAUNA charges nothing for adoption, and lets nobody use it to sell animals dressed as adoption. A fee asked by a shelter goes to that shelter in full, to cover vaccines, neutering and care, and the shelter has to explain it. Listings selling animals, litters or breeding are not allowed.
5. Trades, services and money
Describe what you sell or offer as it is, with true photos. Do not promise health outcomes you cannot guarantee. Whoever presents themselves as a professional has to be one, and answers for what they do. FAUNA connects people, it does not provide the service.
Do not use the app to ask for money outside it, or to take people elsewhere in order to escape these rules.
6. Health advice
You can tell your experience and ask for opinions. You cannot pass yourself off as a vet without being one, or recommend medicines, doses or treatments for other people's animals. A mistake here can kill an animal, which is why this is the only rule about what is SAID that we treat like the rules about what is POSTED.
7. What happens when someone breaks a rule
It depends on how serious it is and whether it is the first time. We may remove the content, limit its reach, suspend the account for a while, or close it. In the worst cases, cruelty, sexual content with animals, credible threats, we act at once and without prior notice.
Whenever we decide about your content we tell you WHAT the decision was, WHICH rule is at stake, and whether it was made by a person or by an automatic system. You can appeal.
8. Reporting and appealing
Anyone can report content inside the app (the three dots, on each post). You see the state of your reports and the answer in Profile → Trust → My reports.
If you disagree with a decision of ours, appeal it on that same screen. A person, not the automatic system that made it, looks at the case again. If you still disagree, you have the routes in section 10 of the Terms.
